If you’ve recently been doing research in preparation of building your new dream home, you’ve probably come across the term “net-zero home”. So what is a “net-zero” home, how do you build one, and does it make dollars and sense?

Today’s super-efficient LOGIX homes routinely cut energy bills in half and can achieve HERS Scores of less than 40, which means they are outperforming the existing building code by 60%.

Combined with cost-effective renewable energy generation LOGIX is the solution to building commercially viable net-zero homes in the future. LOGIX is tomorrow’s smarter technology, today.

Simply put, a net-zero home is a very energy efficient home that also generates most of, or all, or possibly more than, the amount of energy it consumes. In many areas, any surplus energy generated by the home that is not consumed is sold back to the grid for account credits.

Step one is to build a very energy efficient home. It is accepted wisdom that the shell of a net-zero home should be built to at least a HERS 60 standard or, in other words, at least 40% more energy efficient than prevailing building code. Given the proven and advanced building technologies on the market today, in 2010 this is quite easy to achieve.
